Castilla la Vieja ist eine historische spanische Region, die das Gebiet umfasste, das später den Provinzen Santander, Burgos, Logroño, Soria, Segovia und Ávila zugeordnet wurde, zu denen einige Gelehrte Valladolid und Palencia hinzufügen. Ihre Ursprünge liegen im historischen Kastilien, das im 9. Jahrhundert in dem Gebiet entstand, das die heutigen Kantabrien, Álava und Burgos umfasst. Im 18. Jahrhundert ordnete Karl III. dem sogenannten Königreich Castilla la Vieja die Provinzen Burgos, Soria, Segovia, Ávila, Valladolid und Palencia zu. Das königliche Dekret vom 30. November 1833, die Reform von Javier de Burgos, legte die Grundlagen für die Provinzaufteilung, die mit einigen Änderungen bis in die heutige Zeit reicht; Logroño und Santander kommen zu Castilla la Vieja hinzu.
