Castella la Vella is een historische Spaanse regio die het gebied omvatte dat later correspondeerde met de provincies Santander, Burgos, Logroño, Soria, Segovia en Ávila, waaraan sommige traktaten Valladolid en Palencia toevoegden. Haar oorsprongen liggen in het historische Castilië dat zich in de 9e eeuw vormde in het gebied tussen het huidige Cantabria, Álava en Burgos. In de 18e eeuw wees Karel III de door hem genoemde koninkrijk Castella la Vella de provincies Burgos, Soria, Segovia, Ávila, Valladolid en Palencia toe. Het Koninklijk decreet van 30 november 1833, de hervorming van Javier de Burgos, legde de basis voor de indeling in provincies die met enkele wijzigingen tot op de dag van vandaag is blijven bestaan; Logroño en Santander kwamen daarbij bij Castella la Vella.
