Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde Loos-en-Gohelle vollständig verwüstet. Loos-en-Gohelle liegt in der Zone Rouge. Die Zone Rouge ist das Gebiet, das im Krieg 1914-18 vollständig zerstört wurde. Diese "roten Flächen" erstreckten sich westlich von Lille, über Arras, in der Nähe von Cambrai, Amiens, Compiègne, Soissons, Laon und Verdun. Erst 1929 wurde das Dorf wieder aufgebaut.
