Draguignan ist eine französische Stadt im Département Var in der Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Draguignan liegt in der Nähe der Bahnstrecke Marseille–Nizza und der Autobahn A 8 und hat 39.433 Einwohner .
Gemäß dem provenzalischen Gelehrten Abbé Boyer stammt der Name Draguignan bereits aus römischer Zeit. Alle mittelalterlichen Texte geben seine lateinische Form Dragonianum oder Draguinianum mit geringen Varianten an. Da Ortsnamen auf –anum durchweg ein gallorömisches Landgut bezeichnen, das sich im Besitz einer Person befand, deren Namen der erste Teil der Ortsbezeichnung konserviert, kann davon ausgegangen werden, dass Draguignan vom Personennamen Draconius herrührt – und nicht, wie durch die Überlieferung kolportiert, die Existenz eines Drachen belegt.
