Lillers ist eine französische Gemeinde mit 9810 Einwohnern im Département Pas-de-Calais in der Region Hauts-de-France; sie gehört zum Arrondissement Béthune und zum Kanton Lillers.Die Geschichte des Ortes beginnt – der Überlieferung nach – um das Jahr 700 mit zwei irischen Adligen, Lugle und Luglien, auf Pilgerreise nach Rom. Sie waren auf dem Weg von Boulogne-sur-Mer nach Thérouanne, als sie von Straßenräubern in der Nähe von Ferfay überfallen und getötet wurden. Durch ein Gewitter sollen die Körper nach Hurionville gespült worden sein, in die Nähe einer Burg des Bischofs von Thérouanne, der für ihr Begräbnis auf einem Hügel im Sumpfland in der Nähe sorgte. Die miterrichtete Kapelle wurde die Keimzelle der Gemeinde Lillers, die sich später um eine Burg und hinter Stadtmauern bildete.
