Die Pont Neuf ist die älteste stehende Brücke über die Seine in Paris. Sie verbindet die Rive Gauche von Paris mit der Rive Droite. Der letzte Großmeister der Tempelritter, Jacques de Molay, wurde am 18. März 1314 auf dem Scheiterhaufen auf der Île de la Cité nahe der Pont Neuf verbrannt. Die Hinrichtung wurde von Philippe le Bel (Philipp dem Schönen) angeordnet. An dem Punkt, an dem die Brücke die Île de la Cité kreuzt, steht ein bronzenes Reiterstandbild von Henri IV.
