Entlang der Opalküste kann man zahlreiche beeindruckende Kliffküsten sehen, die durch den steigenden Meeresspiegel und den Klimawandel, der das Meer heftig gegen die Klippen schlägt, rapide erodieren. Der französische Staat sah die Problematik kommen. Im Jahr 2012 übertrug er das Management des Erosionsrisikos auf die Bürgermeister. Für einige Gemeinden ist das eine große technische und finanzielle Herausforderung. Das nennt man dann fachkundig, die heiße Kartoffel weiterzureichen.
