Als dritter Standort des UNESCO-Architekturensembles aus dem 18. Jahrhundert war dieser im 16. Jahrhundert angelegte und im 18. Jahrhundert umgestaltete Platz ursprünglich ein Ort für Ritterspiele und Turniere, daher der Name "Carrière" (Steinbruch). Am Eingang des Platzes stehen sich zwei Gebäude gegenüber: das Hôtel de Craon (Berufungsgericht) und die Handelsbörse (Verwaltungsgericht). Am anderen Ende erhebt sich der Regierungspalast, der von einem Halbkreis eingerahmt und mit antiken Gottheiten geschmückt ist. Unter Stanislas beherbergte er den Intendanten, den Vertreter des französischen Königs.
