Saint-Pierre war ursprünglich die Kapelle des Benediktinerklosters Saint-Benoît, stieg aber 1536 zur Kathedrale auf, als der Sitz des Erzbistums Maguelone nach Montpellier verlegt wurde.
Unbedingt ansehen: der Vorbau, ein imposantes Baldachin, das von enormen runden Säulen mit einem Durchmesser von 4,55 Meter getragen wird, die früher die Wappen von Urban V. zeigten, der Student und Lehrer in Montpellier war, dann zum Bischof ernannt und 1362 in Avignon zum Papst gewählt wurde.
Der Bau ist ein repräsentatives Beispiel für die Südgotik und hat als einzige mittelalterliche Kirche Montpelliers die Religionskriege überstanden.
Im Inneren führt Sie ein wichtiges Werk von Sébastien Bourdon in das künstlerische Leben von Montpellier im 17. Jahrhundert ein.
