Das Dorf Les Farges liegt nördlich von Montignac, das für die Höhle von Lascaux in der Dordogne berühmt ist, im Herzen des Tals der Vézère.
Etwa im 10. Jahrhundert wurde das Dorf Le Cheylard am rechten Ufer der Vézère gegründet. Viele Jahrhunderte später, im 15. Jahrhundert, wurde das Schloss von Le Cheylard gebaut, das zu einem echten Aussichtspunkt auf das Schloss von Sauvebœuf am anderen Ufer wurde.
Jahrhundert wechselten die Bewohner ihren Wohnort von Le Cheylard in den höher gelegenen Marktflecken Les Farges.
