El pueblo de Les Farges está situado al norte de Montignac, famoso por la cueva de Lascaux en Dordoña, en el corazón del valle de la Vézère. Hacia el siglo X, el pueblo de Cheylard fue fundado en la orilla derecha. Varios siglos más tarde, en el siglo XV, el castillo de Cheylard fue edificado y se hizo un verdadero puesto de observación sobre el castillo de Sauveboeuf, situado en la otra orilla. Hacia el siglo XVI, los habitantes han cambiado de lugar de vivienda, abandonando el Cheylard para el pueblo de Les Farges, situado en las alturas.
