Der 22 km von Verdun in Richtung Fresnes en Woëvre gelegene Éparges-Kamm war 1915 Gegenstand heftiger Kämpfe. Bei dem Versuch, den Saillant de Saint-Mihiel im Frühjahr 1915 zu reduzieren, griffen die Franzosen den Éparges-Kamm an, einen strategischen Punkt, der den Süden der Maasküste dominierte. Die Deutschen starteten einen Gegenangriff.
Die oberirdische Konfrontation wird unter die Erde verlagert, und in den Eingeweiden des Hügels beginnt ein "Minenkrieg". Trichter sind die visuellen Zeugen dieses "Minenkriegs", ebenso wie die Gedenkstätten des 106. RI, Mémorial du Génie, Monument du point X, Monument au 302e RI, Monument du Coq, die Panoramabilder von den Punkten X und C. Am Fuße des Hügels erstreckt sich die französische Nekropole, der sogenannte "cimetière du Trottoir".
