Crête des Éparges

Located 22 kilometers from Verdun in the direction of Fresnes en Woëvre, the Éparges ridge was the scene of fierce fighting in 1915. In an attempt to reduce the Saint-Mihiel Salient in the spring of 1915, the French attacked the Éparges ridge, a strategic point dominating the southern Meuse coastline. The Germans counter-attacked.

The surface confrontation went underground, and a "mine war" began in the bowels of the hill. Funnels bear visual witness to this "mine war", as do the memorials to the 106th RI, Mémorial du Génie, Monument du point X, Monument au 302e RI, Monument du Coq, panoramas of points X and C. At the foot of the hill lies the French necropolis known as the "Cimetière du Trottoir".
