Die Burg wurde Anfang des 13. Jahrhunderts erbaut und 1633 während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges von den Schweden zerstört. Im Jahr 1705 dachten die Franzosen über einen Wiederaufbau nach, gaben das Projekt jedoch auf und 1778 wurde der Kirchturm aus dem Material der Burg errichtet... Die Bevölkerung folgte dem Beispiel und entnahm massenhaft Steine für den Bau ihrer Häuser. Das Gebäude wurde 1969 von der Stadt Schirmeck teilweise restauriert
