Costruito all'inizio del XIII secolo, il castello fu distrutto dagli svedesi nel 1633 durante la Guerra dei Trent'anni. Nel 1705 i francesi pensarono di ricostruirlo, ma abbandonarono il progetto e nel 1778 il campanile della chiesa fu costruito con i materiali del castello... La popolazione seguì l'esempio della chiesa e prese molte pietre per la costruzione di case. L'edificio è stato parzialmente restaurato dalla città di Schirmeck nel 1969
