Nur die quadratischen und spitzen Türme überlebten die Zerstörung der Abtei Saint-Winoc in ihrer Funktion als Navigationssignal. Schiffe, die in den Kanal von Dünkirchen einfuhren, wurden von den beiden Türmen von Bergues in eine sichere Richtung geleitet.
Der Turm der Abteikirche wurde 1031 erbaut.
Im Jahr 1812 stürzte der Tour Pointue aufgrund mangelnder Unterstützung ein und das Marineministerium ließ ihn wieder aufbauen. Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts kaufte die Stadt das Gelände, um dort einen öffentlichen Garten anzulegen.
