Es ist eine Station an der Intercity-Route Dublin nach Waterford und wurde am 10. April 1966 zu Ehren von Thomas MacDonagh benannt, einem der hingerichteten Anführer des Osteraufstands von 1916.
Sie befindet sich an einem kurzen Abzweig von der Hauptbahn, etwa 4,5 km von der Lavistown Loop Line entfernt. Dies erfordert, dass Züge die Station in die gleiche Richtung verlassen, aus der sie eingetroffen sind. Das bedeutete, dass die Lokomotive von einem Ende des Zuges zum anderen geschoben werden musste. Heute hat die Verwendung von IE 22000 Class-Triebwagen die Notwendigkeit für dieses Verfahren beseitigt.
