Kanturk ist eine kleinere Marktstadt am Zusammenfluss der River Allow und Dallow im nordwestlichen Binnenland der Grafschaft Cork. Die Stadt entwickelte sich im 17. Jahrhundert aus einer bestehenden Besiedlung. Nachdem sie lange konstant blieb, stieg die Einwohnerzahl zwischen 2002 und dem Census 2006 von 1651 auf 1915 Personen. Beim Census 2016 belief sich die Einwohnerzahl bereits auf 2350 Personen. Partnerstadt von Kanturk ist Rostrenen in der Bretagne.
