Bevor die neugotische Kathedrale von Killarney erbaut wurde, fanden die Messen in einer kleinen Kapelle statt. Joseph O’Sullivan, ein Pfarrer aus Dingle, hatte die Idee für den Bau einer Kathedrale; Bischof Cornelius Egan und ein lokaler Adeliger waren von der Idee begeistert.
