In der Mitte des Platzes befindet sich ein Denkmal aus weißem Marmor, das Ferdinando I de' Medici gewidmet ist. Die Statue, die von Pietro Francavilla nach einem Entwurf von Giambologna angefertigt wurde, stand ursprünglich neben der „spallette“ des Lungarno, wurde aber nach der Sanierung der Ufer im Jahr 1872 an ihren heutigen Standort verlegt. Vor dieser Statue stand bis 1595 eine Statue, die Rodolfo Orlandi, Konsul und Held der Republik (von den damaligen Pisanern Der Riese genannt) gewidmet war.
Am Ende des Platzes befinden sich einige alte Palazzi aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, Sitze von Institutionen: das Ricci-College, der Mazzarosa-Palast, das Ernesto-Rossi-Theater und der Pellegrino-Palast aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, Sitz der Intendenza di Finanza. Links die Apsis der Kirche San Nicola, deren Fassade zur Via Santa Maria zeigt.
Auf dem Platz gibt es jetzt einen großen kostenpflichtigen Parkplatz.
