Die Skulptur wurde im September 2014 vom Palermo-Künstler Gabriele Venanzio geschaffen.
Die Einwohner von Sambuca werden seit jeher mit dem Namen „sammucari babbaluciari“ (Schneckenbesucher) bezeichnet; Ihnen gefiel dieser Name so gut, dass sie sogar eine Statue der Schnecke (Vittoria) in der Mitte der Piazza Vittoria (daher der Name der Schnecke) am Corso Umberto I haben wollten.
Ziel ist es, den Wert der Trägheit wiederzuentdecken , den Lauf der Zeit, wie er von einer Schnecke gesehen wird, die ihr Leben langsam lebt und es in seiner ganzen Pracht genießt.
Die Arbeiten wurden vom Gemeinderat in Auftrag gegeben.
