Das Centre national d’études spatiales ist die französische Raumfahrtagentur. Die Organisation wurde 1961 gegründet. 1965 wurde mit der französischen Trägerrakete Diamant der erste Satellit vom inzwischen stillgelegten Weltraumbahnhof Hammaguir in Algerien gestartet. 1969 wurde das Centre Spatial Guyanais bei Kourou fertiggestellt. 1975 wurde das nationale Raketenprogramm zugunsten der europäischen Ariane-Rakete gestoppt.
Neben dem Weltraumbahnhof in Kourou betreibt die CNES weitere Bodenstationen zur Überwachung der Arianeflüge:
