Dordrecht: die älteste Stadt Hollands. Die Insel Dordrecht ist auch bekannt für ihr wunderschönes Netzwerk alter Kanäle. Tatsächlich stammt der Name 'Dordrecht' sehr wahrscheinlich von dem älteren niederländischen Wort 'doorgang' (Thuredrecht). Dieses Wort stammt aus der Geschichte der Stadt als ein wichtiger europäischer Handelshafen, wo 'doorgaande' sich auf die Kanäle bezieht, durch die Schiffe gezogen wurden. Die Schiffe mussten durch die Kanäle fahren, um von einem Fluss zum anderen zu gelangen.
