Alphen ist ein Dorf in der Gemeinde Alphen-Chaam, in der niederländischen Provinz Nordbrabant. Das Dorf liegt zwischen Riel und Baarle-Nassau und in der Nähe von Tilburg und Breda und zählt 4.305 Einwohner. Der Name Alphen wird oft aus dem germansichen alf-heim erklärt, was dann so etwas wie Wohnsitz der Elfen bedeutet. Dies ist jedoch eine besonders romantische Darstellung des Ursprungs des Namens Alphen. Wahrscheinlicher ist die Erklärung von alf als von einem Wasser. In diesem Fall lässt sich der Name Alphen als alf-heim zu einem Wohnort an einem Wasserlauf zurückführen. In Alphen entspringt nämlich der Dorpswasserloop, der in die Leij mündet.
