Asperen ist eine kleine Stadt in der niederländischen Provinz Gelderland. Sie gehört zur Gemeinde West Betuwe und liegt etwa 10 km östlich von Gorinchem am Fluss Linge. 1313 erhielt sie das Stadtrecht. In der Römerzeit war Asperen der Standort der römischen Siedlung Caspingium. Der Name Asperen wurde erstmals im Jahr 893 verwendet. Die Etymologie ist unbekannt. Asperen war ein Esdorf, das sich im frühen Mittelalter entlang des Linge-Flusses entwickelte. Sie erhielt 1313 das Stadtrecht, und Stadtmauern sowie ein runder Kanal um die Stadt wurden erbaut, jedoch entwickelte sich die Stadt nie. Teile der Stadtmauer und die Waterpoort, ein Stadttor, sind erhalten geblieben. Die Asperenburg wurde 1672 von den Franzosen zerstört.
