Asperen es una pequeña ciudad en la provincia holandesa de Gelderland. Es parte del municipio de West Betuwe y se encuentra a unos 10 km al este de Gorinchem, a orillas del río Linge. Recibió derechos de ciudad en 1313. En la época romana, Asperen fue la ubicación de la asentamiento romano Caspingium. El nombre Asperen se utilizó por primera vez en 893. La etimología es desconocida. Asperen era un esdorp que se desarrolló en la Alta Edad Media a lo largo del río Linge. Recibió derechos de ciudad en 1313, y se construyeron murallas y un canal circular alrededor de la ciudad, sin embargo, la ciudad nunca se desarrolló. Parte de la muralla de la ciudad y la Waterpoort, una puerta de la ciudad, se han mantenido. El castillo de Asperen fue destruido por los franceses en 1672.
