Der Stadtteil liegt im Südwesten der Stadt Groningen, eingeklemmt zwischen dem im Norden gelegenen Stadtpark Groningen, den ebenfalls zum Stadtgebiet Groningen gehörenden Hoornse Vierteln mit Corpus den Hoorn und Hoornse Park im Süden und Osten sowie dem Drenther Eelderwolde mit dem Neubauviertel Ter Borch im Westen. Die Grenze des Stadtteils verläuft von der Weg Der Verenigde Naties über die Grenze zwischen den Schrebergärten des Komplexes Piccardthof und dem Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn entlang der Schweitzerlaan und dem Naturschutzgebiet Piccardthofplas zur Paterswoldseweg und dann über die Ter Borchlaan und die Provinzgrenze zurück zum Weg Der Verenigde Naties. Der Stadtteil ist in Nachfolge des Schrebergartenkomplexes nach Jan Hendrik Herman Piccardt benannt.
