Die Kirche wurde 1871 erbaut als Ersatz für eine Kapelle aus dem Jahr 1790. Der Architekt Herman Jan van den Brink entwarf eine dreischiffige Basilika im neugotischen und neoromanischen Stil, mit einem halb eingebauten Turm an der Vorderfassade.
Die Kirche wurde zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts zu klein. Ab 1928 wurde auf dem Gelände eines ehemaligen Bauernhofs in der Molenstraße eine neue Kirche erbaut. Die alte Adrianuskirche wurde 1931 geschlossen. Das Kirchengebäude diente anschließend noch einige Jahre als Autogarage und wurde 1935 abgerissen.
