The church was built in 1871 to replace a chapel from 1790. Architect Herman Jan van den Brink designed a three-aisled basilica in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque styles, with a semi-embedded tower on the facade.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the church became too small. From 1928, a new church was built on the site of a former farmhouse on Molenstraat. The old Adrianus Church was closed in 1931. The church building then served for several years as a car garage and was demolished in 1935.
