Dieses wunderschöne Museum erzählt die Geschichte von 200 Jahren Zucht und den Niederlanden. Das Gefangendorf entstand dank des Engagements von Johannes van den Bosch. Sein Ziel war es, die Armut zu bekämpfen, indem er den Menschen eine neue Chance in den Kolonien der Wohltätigkeit gab. Natürlich musstest du dich benehmen und dein Bestes geben. Um dich daran zu erinnern, gab es Zucht und Strafen. Was das bedeutete und wie sich das im Laufe der Jahre entwickelte, kannst du hier in diesem ehemaligen Gefängnis sehen.
Veenhuizen ist als Teil der Kolonien der Wohltätigkeit in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste aufgenommen worden. Auf dem Innenhof des Museums wurde die Aufführung Das Pauperparadies gezeigt.
