Neben dem Torre de Sant Joan , ungefähr dort, wo sich heute die Plaça de Sant Joan und der Brunnen befinden, befand sich eine kleine Kapelle , in der der heilige Johannes verehrt wurde. Eines Tages wurde die kleine Kapelle durch einen Brand schwer beschädigt und nur wenige Statuen standen wurden gerettet. Mit dem Abriss des Torre de Sant Joan wurde auch das Schicksal der Kapelle besiegelt, die ebenfalls abgebaut wurde.
Der Bau der Kapelle S. João begann am 9. April 1863 an der Stelle, an der sie sich heute befindet. Der Reichtum der Schnitzereien wird hervorgehoben und geschätzt. Die Kapelle hat eine achteckige Form. ursprüngliche Kapelle desselben Heiligen und der kleine angrenzende Mauerabschnitt, der sich damals an der Mündung der Rua de S. João befand.
