Antiochia am Orontes oder Antiochien war eine Stadt im Seleukidenreich . Sie ist der bekannteste und mit Abstand bedeutendste mehrerer antiker Orte dieses Namens, die von verschiedenen Königen der Seleukidendynastie gegründet wurden. In römischer Zeit war sie neben dem ägyptischen Alexandria und Konstantinopel eine der größten und bedeutendsten Städte im östlichen Mittelmeerraum.
Das antike Antiochia lag am linken Ufer des Orontes rund 30 km vom Meer und seiner Hafenstadt Seleukia Pieria entfernt. Im Osten war die Stadt von vier niedrigen Bergen umgeben, darunter der über 500 m hohe Silpios, im Westen begrenzte sie der Fluss. Durch die Stadt fließt auch ein am Silpios entspringender Bach namens Parmenios in den Strom , der dort seine Fließrichtung ändert. Die Stadtmauern umgaben nur das im Osten gelegene Zentrum der Stadt, die Vorstädte in der Ebene westlich des Orontes waren ungeschützt. Reste der Mauern sind auf dem Silphius noch zu sehen.
