Saporischschja ist die Hauptstadt der Oblast Saporischschja in der südlichen Ukraine und mit etwa 760.000 Einwohnern die sechstgrößte Stadt der Ukraine. Die Großstadt liegt am Dnepr 70 km südlich von Dnipro.
Saporischschja ist ein wichtiger Verkehrsknoten, ein Industriezentrum sowie kultureller Mittelpunkt mit Hochschulen, Theater und Museen.
In der Stadt befinden sich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten wie zum Beispiel die Insel Chortyzja.
Im Zeitraum 2017 bis 2018 hat die Stadtregierung mit Unterstützung des kanadischen Beratungsinstituts Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance die Entwicklungsstrategie 2018 erstellt, deren Ziele seit 2018 in den Bereichen Ökologie, Wirtschaft, öffentliche Infrastruktur sowie Bildung und Forschung umgesetzt werden.
