Am Wochenende nach dem Großen Preis von Mexiko fand der US-Grand-Prix erstmals auf einem Straßenkurs in Phoenix in Arizona statt. Der Kurs erwies sich als vergleichsweise unspektakulär. Zudem fanden sich nur rund 32.000 Zuschauer ein.
