Absdorf is a market municipality with 2,300 inhabitants in the Tulln district of Lower Austria. It is primarily known for viticulture and the railway line of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn built in the 19th century. The associated railway junction is the Absdorf-Hippersdorf station. The municipality is located 30 km northwest of Vienna in the Tullnerfeld at an elevation of 182 m above sea level, slightly north of the Danube near the slope of the Wagram. With an area of 15.96 square kilometers, Absdorf is one of the smallest municipalities in Lower Austria in terms of land area. About 80% of Absdorf consists of fields, some of which are used for viticulture, around 13% is forested, and 7% is built-up land. The terrain in Absdorf is predominantly flat, but it features several hills and low mountains, particularly the steep terrain step of the loess-based Wagram. The Schmida river flows through the market municipality of Absdorf from northwest to southeast, along with the Schmidamühlbach that branches off from it.
