Danube Circular Trail

Starting point:
Parking lot Donaulände 2-3 at the Donaucafé.

Just a few meters after the parking lot, you reach a key point of the entire Danube course. Through two tunnels, you pass the steeply sloping flank of the Braunsberg. At low water, the rocks in the river are clearly visible. Occasionally, deer can be seen on the rocky slopes, while powerful ivy stalks climb over rocks and trees. The path then leaves the riverbank and follows the Hainburg Kastln. In spring, snowdrops bloom here, and shortly afterward in the year, they are replaced by hollow larkspur. As the path rises, field maple, hawthorn, and hazel begin to dominate. The Rötelstein cliff hosts a special dry grassland community with white wall pepper and emerald lizards. Further uphill in the hillside forest, liverworts and grape hyacinths can be seen. Just before Braunsbergstraße, the route branches off to the right and runs back along a narrow path down the slope. Before descending to the Danube, wide views of the floodplain area and the city of Hainburg open up.
