Description by the author

This circular hike in the Sendertal Valley first leads up to the idyllic Salfeinssee lake, where on clear summer days the craggy peaks of the Kalkkögel Mountains are reflected on the water's still surface. The lake also offers fine views of Innsbruck and the Inn Valley, stretching all the way to the Mieming Mountains, the Karwendel Mountains and the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak. The hike then continues along the ridge over the summits of the Grieskogel, Breitschwemmkogel and Angerbergkopf to the Schaflegerkogel peak. Finally, hikers descend to the Kemater Alm, a traditional wooden hut at the foot of the Kalkkögel Mountains serving hearty food and drink .
The "Parkplatz Kaserl" car park is located near the bridge over the Senderbach river (approx. 15 minutes' drive along the forest road from the village of Grinzens; toll fee applies). From the car park, the forest road crosses the bridge and leads up to the Salfeinsalm hut (closed). From the hut, the route continues up to a small wooden cross and then westwards up onto the plateau where the Salfeinssee lake is. Form the lake, hikers walk in a southerly direction along the ridge to the Grieskogel mountain (2,158 metres). After a short descent, the route heads into the Fotschertal Valley until the first fork in the trail, which takes hikers to the right and up onto the Breitschwemmkogel (2,264 metres) and Angerbergkopf (2,399 metres) mountains. Finally, a short descent is followed by another climb to the Schaflegerkogel (2,405 metres) mountain. After reaching this final summit of the hike, there is a steep descent to the Kreuzjöchl ridge (cross-over point from the Senderstal Valley into the Fotschertal Valley). From there the route continues in an easterly direction down into the Senderstal Valley and along the stream to the Kemater Alm hut. After a stop at the hut, hikers then make their way down along the wide forest road from the Kemater Alm hut along the Senderbach river to the "Parkplatz Kaserl" car park.
