Not much is known about Saint Bavo. After his missionary work with Saint Amandus, Bavo is said to have received permission to live as a hermit in the woods behind the Abbey of Saint Peter. He probably died around 650 and was buried in the Saint Peter's Church founded by Amandus, which was located in the current area of the Saint Bavo Abbey. You can still see the conversion of Saint Bavo in a painting by Rubens in Saint Bavo Cathedral.
