At this location, the two most powerful classes of the 19th century engaged in a battle. As a response to the omnipresent church, the Liberals decided to create a new park just opposite the Sablon church and in a former cemetery, where every Brussels craft is depicted on a column. To the sides of the statues of the Counts Egmont and Horne there is a series of statues, no saints or gods obviously but well-known humanists and freethinkers.
