The Saint-Joris Court or "Sint Jorishof" is the center of the guilde of the crossbow-shooters. They were in charge of the defence of the city.
The building is made of local rocks of the neighbourhood of Balegem.
The Saint-Joris guilde were the fronttroopers of the crusaders.
From the 16th century onwards, the crossbow was loosing importance, and firearms were getting more important. That was also the period the Saint-Joris guilde went down.
