The Sint-Donatus Church in Arlon is a church located on the centrally located hill in the city, La Knippchen, which was already used by the Gallo-Roman population of Orolaunum as an impregnable place during the time of the Great Migration. In the eleventh century, a fortress was built on this site, which was destroyed by the French in 1558. Between 1621 and 1626, the Capuchins built their monastery and the church on the ruins of this castle. Next to the church stood the entrance gate of the Abbey of Clairefontaine, which was destroyed during the French Revolution. The church was fortified under the reign of Louis XIV, restored in 1851, and again at the end of the 19th century. The Chemin royal de la Croix or montée de Saint-Donat is a stone Stations of the Cross from 1846 that leads to the church and has been classified as important heritage of Wallonia since 1992. From the church tower, there is an unobstructed view over the three adjacent countries: Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and France.
