This is the place where the Punt factory used to stand. It was named that way because points were made and cut from steel cables into nails. They had developed a unique and patented process here for that purpose. The production was fully automated and their successful product was exported all over the world. At its peak, more than 2000 employees worked here. People came from more than 20 km away to work here. These workers also needed to quench their thirst, and this area had dozens of cafes. Now, only a handful of them remain. In 1993, the metal processing company Trefi-Arbed went bankrupt because no further investments had been made for a number of years. The area deteriorated and attracted squatters and drug dealers. Many murders were even committed here. The company Sovape, from developer Luc Van Pelt, bought the fifteen hectares and initiated a new development as an industrial area. Now, many new companies and organizations are located here, making it a new growth hub in the city of Ghent.
