Abbey of Postel

The Norbertine abbey of Postel, located in a beautiful wooded area, was founded around 1140 to cultivate heathland. The abbey has a real cheese dairy: the Postel abbey cheese and the Raphael cheese are sought-after dairy products. The monks are also involved in the cultivation and processing of medicinal herbs, including ginseng. The various abbey products, including abbey bread and Postel beer, are available in the shop at the entrance gate. The Romanesque St. Nicholas Church dates from 1190, the abbey tower from 1709, and the Rococo refectory from 1750. The library contains more than 30,000 works, including about 50 incunabula, 150 post-incunabula, and 350 Plantin prints. In the summer, you can go listen to carillon concerts there.
