The Castle of Olsene was built in 1854 and is located in Olsene along the road that connects Ghent with Kortrijk, the N43.
Initially, the Hof Ter Wallen stood at the same place, dating back to the late 11th century. In 1502, it was inhabited by Pieter Lanchals II, son of Pieter Lanchals I. He was married to Jacoba Quévin, a scion from a family that settled at the castle around 1456. From then on, Lanchals referred to himself as lord of Olsene, a title he inherited from his wife and her family. From then on, a swan also appeared in the municipal coat of arms, and swans were introduced in the moat around the castle, just like in Bruges.
