The town hall of oudenaarde was built in the 16th century and was built in Brabant late Gothic style by architect Hendrik van Pede, master builder of Brussels. The 40 m high belfry tower is crowned by the legendary figure of Hanske the Warrior, a 2 m high copper soldier statue with the urban banner. It contains of course an important collection of verdures, but also silverware and paintings by Adriaan Brouwer, Oudenaarde's most famous artist. The Municipal Tourist Office (a small museum in itself) is located in the Town Hall.
