St. Peter's Church

In the early 11th century, the parish was founded by Corbie Abbey. In 1559 the tithe right and the patronage right came to Godfried van Bocholtz, who was lord of Grevenbroek. In 1621 these rights passed to the Prince-Bishop of Liège.
In 1644 a new church was built by Willem van Bocholtz. The original, Romanesque, tower was preserved. From 1838-1839 the west façade was renewed in neoclassical style. In 1881 the choir and sacristy were damaged by fire, and in 1888, the church was rebuilt to a design by Mathieu Christiaens. The choir was enlarged and a neo-Gothic transept was added. Later, the arched windows of the nave were replaced by neo-Gothic pointed arch windows, such as those already present in the choir. A wooden vault was also installed that replaced the pointed arch vault. Initially, they also wanted to change the neoclassical west part in a neo-Gothic style, but eventually only the tower was radically modified, replacing the dome spire with a constricted needle spire.
