Palace on the Meir (Meir 50). This patrician residence from the 18th century quickly became a palace for kings and emperors. Napoleon used it as a city palace, and William of Orange made it his official residence until it came into the hands of the Belgian royal family, who used it as a reception venue for guests arriving via the port.
In 2010, the Palace on the Meir was given a new purpose. The ground floors and the original coach house received hospitality and commercial functions. In the salons, Café Impérial is located on the left and The Chocolate Line by Dominique Persoone is on the right. Interior store Flamant took up residence in the former coach house. The halls and salons on the first floor were given a museum function. The palace can be visited as a monument (reservations, Mon at 10 am or 2 pm) including the Empire furniture and decorations.
In the blue room, formerly Napoleon's salon, portraits of Napoleon and Leopold II hang, commissioned by chocolatier Dominique Persoone. His store The Chocolate Line is definitely worth a visit. In the square around the corner (Wapper 9 – 11) is the famous Rubens House.
