Bilzen is still often associated with Jazz Bilzen from the 1960s. That time has passed, but the festival has made Bilzen widely known. Terms like 'Demer town' and 'terraces' are often linked to Bilzen. Both give a good impression: you can enjoy nature peacefully, but you can also taste urban pleasures, and terraces are a pleasant part of that. Visitors will find interesting buildings in the city center, including the town hall from 1686, the St. Mauritius Church, one of the few hall churches in our region, and the Language Museum. The latter is housed in the town hall and focuses on the origins of Dutch, particularly the oldest written sources. You can also learn a bit about the origins of our family names.
