The town hall was built after the original town hall was set on fire by the Croatian troops of Jan van Weert in 1636. Construction began in 1685 and the master builder was Lambert Derick, who came from Antheit. Initially, it was part of a row of houses, but this was demolished in 1890, allowing the town hall to stand alone.
