The current castle of Leeuwergem was built together with the lower courtyard in 1724 on the territory of Elene and is one of the most important 18th-century castle domains in Flanders. The park and gardens were partially inspired by designs from the French landscape architect Le Nôtre. Unique in our country is the leaf theater, an outdoor theater made of hornbeam that accommodates 800 people. The whole complex reflects the evolution from the classical garden to the 19th-century romantic park layout.
